Courtney Coggan
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor, and Board Certified Telehealth Professional with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. With a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology, I have worked with individuals presenting with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, and the symptoms of stress. I have experience with those dealing with transitions in life such as relationship issues/divorce, returning to work/career change, experiencing a personal loss/familial conflict, etc. I help people struggling with self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth, and those who identify in the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, I have worked in the education field and have helped many students overcome the personal obstacles getting in the way of them being successful in school. I have a deep respect for those who reach out for help because I know how difficult that can be. For counseling, I utilize a strength based and person centered approach that is humanistic and values the therapeutic relationship. I believe it’s important to use evidence based practices that have been proven through research to show the best results possible. My techniques include motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and brief solution focused intervention. Every person is different in their needs and I think it’s important to meet clients where they are. I help create a safe space where you know there is no judgment and what is said is confidential. I have dedicated my time to connecting with people and helping them develop a plan to not only overcome the tough times, but also grow in their ability to deal with whatever life hands us next. Counseling has the ability to enhance your life for the better, and I’d love to take that journey with you.

Good job! You are already taking your first step to helping yourself. I am warm and inviting with various things to look at (if you choose video sessions), items to fidget with (you’ll find out when we work together), and of course me to talk to. I use various techniques like REBT, CBT and ACT (and others) which are forms of therapy, however most of my clients state “we are just talking, or wow you are really good at this.” I let them know it’s not me: I am simply “reframing” what you; my future has stated to me back to you in a non-judging way. You hear it for yourself and I give you the credit for trusting me enough to share and hear your own information. I also try to help my clients reframe to see the positives in their life, no matter how small. I convey to all of my clients that this is a ‘judge free’ space and they will never be judged by me. I want them to feel comfortable and realize that the work they are doing comes from them, not from me, and I will be in that judge-free space with them so they will not be alone. I provide a safe space to be mad, sad, happy, or any way you choose to feel. I am no stranger to working with mental health clients and have worked with people that have depression, personality disorders, trauma, grief and anxiety disorders to name a few. I most recently spent time providing therapy providing outpatient service to those with dual-diagnosis at a substance and alcohol abuse facility and prior to that with schools for kids aged five to college. I also have experience working with inmates in a prison and jail. I have worked with those who want to discuss sexual identity and questioning their gender. I enjoy all aspects of working with clients but love to see them take time to realize the important things in life - I will be available in the virtual office world on Mondays 3 pm to 6 pm, Tuesdays 3 pm to 6pm, Wednesday from 7 am to 3 pm, Thursdays 7 am to 3 pm. Although these hours are subject to change I invite you to ask for details or special accommodations. I want to let you know that I do check for messages throughout the day each day. Please be respectful and understand that everyone, like you is very important and deserves my undivided attention. I will respond to your message at my earliest convenience. Weekends may take a little longer as they are not my typical working hours.

Stacey Shane-Nusbaum
Hi, I'm Stacey. I'm a Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#SW16157). I have 10+ years of experience as a mental/behavioral health psychotherapist working with widely varied populations and cultures in different settings, which have included online telehealth platforms, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, clients' own homes, facilities for in-patient and out-patient addictions and mental health treatment, and private offices. I've worked with individuals ages 15 years old on up to 90 years old for one-on-one therapy, group sessions, and at times families and couples. My experience includes helping those struggling with such issues as anxiety, stress, depression, bipolar, borderline, trauma/PTSD, some phobias, OCD, ADHD, grief, self-esteem, self-identity, self-doubt, relationships with self or others, codependency, conflict avoidance, conflict and impulse control, communication and social skills, maladaptive coping, parenting, life transitions, life balance, sense of purpose and life meaning, spirituality, goals, motivation, medical problems, pain syndromes, substance misuse and other behavioral addictions. I have specialized training in MI (motivational interviewing), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), SFBT (solution-focused brief therapy, MBCT (mindfulness-based cognitive therapy), somatic therapy, CPT (cognitive processing for trauma), mindfulness, ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), teaching mindfulness skills and meditation, body movement, communication skills training, and laughter therapy. I tend to use an integrative approach that combines some elements from more than one of the above modalities for side-by-side use or a more linear use of transitioning from one modality to another at appropriate points in time or therapy benchmarks. I sometimes incorporate aspects from Narrative, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, or DBT therapies. You won't be receiving cookie-cutter help as your course of therapy will be as unique as you are. Some folks understandably don't have much interest in detailed time-consuming explanations about the modalities put together for their therapy, yet others have felt less powerless over the process by gaining understanding of the what's, how's, and why's of it. Some people feel a need to understand a rationale before making changes; this can be a factor in motivating change, reducing anxiety about risks or the unknown, and leading to a sense of empowerment as an active partner in their own therapy. However, via developing a trusting therapeutic rapport between us, it's also perfectly understandable if you have little interest in becoming a psych expert during the limited time we have in session! Whatever your expectations, desired approach, or interpersonal style, the point is forward movement toward your goals and not as much in how we get you there. My practice frameworks includes person-centered (meet the client where they are, and you are the expert on your own life experiences), systems theory (you or your problem don’t exist in a vacuum, and your environment and relationships matter), culturally sensitive (you are the teacher/expert on your own culture and life), and trauma-informed (your trauma is unique to you, and I prioritize not to re-traumatize), strengths-based (you are equipped with your own innate resources--strengths and qualities--that can be uncovered or revitalized to help tackle some issues in the present), and humanistic (to help develop a healthy sense of self, explore feelings, find meaning). My style is fairly laid back, and I look forward to some chuckles together (hopefully at appropriate times, of course!) I’m empathetic and caring, and am told by clients that they don't feel negatively judged by me. My aim is for you to feel a sense of safety for open and honest sharing. I’m NOT overly passive with only “uh hu”s as I try and be your guide toward revelations that matter most to you, and I’m not shy about providing feedback or asking for yours. I am also an RN (Registered Nurse-Florida), which is useful when I teach about the mind-body connections, medications, medical ailments, brain neurochemistry. I like providing psychoeducation; for example, learning about what’s happening in your body during anxiety can help alleviate some anxiety about your anxiety; or, learning some communication tricks can help you avoid or resolve interpersonal conflict. Most importantly, I take a collaborative approach with you. I believe success requires a partnership, development of trust, mutual respect, and a sense of safety for you to be yourself in this therapeutic process. Therapy with me is a “we” thing. Keeping me continuously informed of how you are experiencing this process with me allows me to help you through these challenges and changes, and collaboratively adjust your goals and the course we are on. I strongly recommend that my clients take an active role in their therap; evidence shows “it works if you work it”. Even the smallest of tasks or work between sessions (and sometimes some repetition) leads to more rapid, effective, and lasting improvement. At times, I may provide you with simple worksheets, assessments, or a homework assignment, but again, this is a collaborative effort and I value your input. To gain the most from the therapy process, it’s helpful if you are honest with yourself about your level of commitments to self-examination, understanding, and our relationship. This includes any concerns you may have regarding services or me. I want to serve you well and appreciate any feedback you may have that will help me to do so. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling life and willingness to take action towards change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey. I look forward to meeting you! NOTE: Please message me if you don't see a time slot open that works for you.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Some commonly asked questions can be found below.
How much does a therapist cost?
Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.
BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.
Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.
How do I know if I should get a therapist?
Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions in Florida can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.
Does insurance cover therapy?
Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.
Is online therapy safe?
Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
